Why Every Skin Routine Needs a Cream

Creams are essential in every skincare routine (even if your skin is oily). They are skincare solutions designed to protect the skin from air pollution and other damage, as well as optimise sebum production, restore and preserve a healthy microbiome.

Despite stereotypes, creams are not supposed to penetrate deeply into the skin. Most cream ingredients work on the surface and in the superficial layers of the skin, without interacting with the deepest layers.

DID YOU KNOW…

Creams can be called moisturisers because one of their roles is to hold water in the skin and maintain the skin hydration.

TRADITIONAL FACE CREAMS AND THEIR INGREDIENTS

Previously, most creams were based on oils, lipids, and animal lard (pigs, bovine, minks and others were very popular). And until recently you could find creams based on crocodile or emu fat, fortunately now it’s becoming rare. Lanolin and mineral oils have been used traditionally even in such legendary creams as Elizabeth Arden’s or La Mer.

Lipids and oils have been used in creams to create a protective film or barrier on the skin helping to decrease the evaporation of the water and soften the surface.

Unfortunately, the excessive use of oil-based products can worsen the skin condition in case of oily skin and paradoxically, worsen the condition of dry skin because of the occlusion-related change of lipid balance in the superficial layer of the skin.

Occlusion slows down the skin renewal process, (which is already slowed by age), so occlusive creams can make skin age faster, despite promises.

A NEW GENERATION OF FACE CREAMS

Meder Beauty creams are not occlusive and all of them are based on the new principle of protection. They create a water-holding basis using hydrophilic moisturising ingredients acting as magnets and not coat-making.

They also contain skin identical lipids such as ceramides, omega-7, omega-3 and omega-6, fatty acids derived from organic oils. Skin identical lipids replace the “missing pieces of jigsaw” of the natural skin barrier mantle. All of them are lightweight and leave the skin with a comfortable feeling without any occlusion, so the skin renews naturally and healthily.
